Care guide
Every piece of James Alexander Knapp Jewellery has been crafted with care and attention to detail using precious metals. As many factors can influence the condition of jewellery, the following are instructions on how to make sure your pieces last a lifetime.
Always protect your jewellery from knocks, scratching, chemicals, and extreme temperatures to avoid/ minimise damage.
Always remove your jewellery before entering water- including the shower, ocean and swimming pools. Chlorine in swimming pools can cause damage to all metals and will erode gold jewellery.
Put on your jewellery after applying makeup, perfume and hairspray. Avoid contact with nail polish remover and cleaning products.
Jewellery is not indestructible and will incur a few scratches and the occasional ding over time. To avoid unnecessary wear and tear remove your jewellery while doing any kind of manual work. This includes the gym, housework, gardening, or sporting activities.
Your jewellery will naturally tarnish and age over time. Regular cleaning using a professional jewellery cleaning product will keep your precious pieces looking tip-top. Always read the manufacturer's instructions, especially when cleaning plated jewellery.
Silver
Silver will naturally tarnish over time. To keep the metal surface shiny and lustrous, a jewellery polishing cloth (available from most jewellers) is an effective way to achieve this. Be gentle to avoid scratching. Alternatively use a professional jewellery cleaning product. (Always read the manufacturer's instructions.) Dry thoroughly after water exposure.
Gold
Cleaning gold jewellery is best done with warm water and detergent free soap. You can use a soft toothbrush to gently clean around settings to remove trapped dirt. Thoroughly rinse and dry your jewellery after exposure to water.
Gold Plating
James Alexander Knapp gold plated jewellery has a thin layer of 18 carat gold on top of sterling silver. Gold Plating will wear off over time and It is important that plated jewellery does not come into contact with nail polish removers, creams, lotions, makeup, perfume, or hairspray.
Frequently clean in a mild dishwashing liquid diluted in water. Using a jewellery polishing cloth or jewellery cleaner can rub off/ damage the plating, therefore it is not recommended.
